The
1992 Jaguar XJS ignition system uses a digital microprocessor-controlled system that eliminates vacuum and mechanical advance controls. The microprocessor contains ignition timing with precise timing for engine speeds, loads and modes of operation. This system (located in the ECU), receives inputs from engine sensors to program the necessary ignition timing. The crankshaft position and engine speed inputs are necessary for the engine to start.
